POTSDAM, N.Y. –The SUNY Geneseo Knights (7-9, 4-2 SUNYAC) defeated the SUNY Potsdam men's lacrosse team (4-10, 1-5 SUNYAC) 10-4 on Senior Day. Four different players scored for the Bears. Junior captain
Josh Huiatt (Libson, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams) led Potsdam with a goal and an assist. Senior captain
Gabe Carbone (Accord, N.Y./Rondout Valley), junior attackman
Tayte Murray (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) and freshman attackman Keenan O' Gorman (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) each scored for Potsdam. Bears senior captain
Zach Sheridan matched his career-high with 22 saves. Sophomore midfielder James Pratt (East Fishkill, N.Y./John Jay) and sophomore attacker Tim Fallo (Mohegan Lake, N.Y./Lakeland) each led the Knights with three goals.
Murray struck first for the Bears at 11:41 of the first quarter, after going by his defender on the left side, and firing a low bounce shot. Sophomore midfielder Jake Bucci (Fairport, N.Y. / Fairport) tied the game up with a shot from in front of the goal off a pass from freshman attacker Kevin Cook (Northport, N.Y./Northport). Fallo's quick-stick goal at the 9:45 mark gave the Knights their first lead of the afternoon. Pratt then extended the lead with a quick-stick goal of his own in the attack zone just over four minutes later.
The Knights scored their fourth goal in a row as Pratt got the rebound off a miss at 11:42 of the second quarter. Huiatt cut the lead in half, while a man up after receiving a pass from freshman midfielder
Alec Miller (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) 39 seconds later. O'Gorman got Potsdam within 4-3 at the 6:56 mark with an assist from Huiatt, but the Bears wouldn't get any closer. Fallo scored two goals in 57 seconds for a 6-3 advantage with 2:34 left in the half. Carbone netted Potsdam's final goal 47 seconds before the break.
Knights sophomore attackman Connor Griffin (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) scored the lone goal of third quarter, putting the ball in the left corner of the net at 6:44. Sheridan kept the Bears in the game with seven saves over the rest of the 15 minutes, but Potsdam couldn't gain any ground.
Pratt opened the fourth quarter with a turnaround drive and score with about eight minutes left In the contest, making it 8-4. The Knights continued their second half run with Cook's over-the-shoulder goal at 5:10. Freshman midfielder Chris Martello's (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Chaminade) closed the scoring with a goal from the right wing with 1:48 to play.
Geneseo junior goalie Tyler Wetzel (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) earned the win after making five saves and allowing four goals in the first 56:47. Junior goalie Bryce Kelly (Mendon, N.Y./Aquinas) made one save in the last 3:13.
Huiatt collected a team-high six ground balls, while senior captain
Colby Chapman had four and caused three turnovers.
The Bears honored their 11 seniors prior to the game. The contest marks the end of the careers of Sheridan, Carbone, attackman
