CANTON, N.Y.—Four-goal first and fourth quarters lifted the SUNY Potsdam men's lacrosse team (3-5) to a 14-7 victory at SUNY Canton (4-6) on Wednesday night. Junior attackman

Gabe Carbone (Accord, N.Y./Rondout Valley) finished with three goals. Senior captain
Zach Sheridan (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) made 14 saves to earn the win.

Sean Coe (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) opened the scoring just 24 seconds into the contest. Huiatt set up senior midfielder

Colby Chapman (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) set up Murray's first marker at 5:48. Murray struck again with 1:18 on the clock with an assist from junior midfielder

Noah Robinson got the Roos within 4-2 after consecutive goals at 13:21 and 8:49 of the second quarter and Josh Yelvington made it a one-goal contest with a marker at 8:04. However, Potsdam answered with a 3-0 run to reestablish the four-goal advantage. Jerman scored at 3:48 and Murray set up Carbone for a man-up goal 15 seconds later. Freshman attackman

Alec Miller (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) and the Bears led 7-3 at the break.
After another Yelvington score at 13:52 of the third quarter, Potsdam scored twice in 16 seconds to make it 9-4. Murray assisted on O'Gorman's goal at 7:29 and senior midfielder
Kyle Smith (Theresa, N.Y./Indian River) connected with freshman attackman
Cam Talcott (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) at 7:23. Andrew Garnett and Huiatt scored 30 seconds apart and Potsdam held a 10-5 lead at 3:19, which the Bears took into the final quarter.
Dante Coco gave Canton its last hope with a goal at 11:31 and the Roos trailed by just four. Potsdam then quickly put the game away with another 3-0 run. Smith set up Carbone at 10:27. Huiatt scored 11 seconds later and then fed Murray to complete the hat trick at 8:47. Brad Sandroni scored Canton's seventh and final goal at 8:15. Carbone closed out the scoring with his third at the 2:56 mark.
Kody Kocsis made nine saves for Canton in his first start after returning from injury.
Junior faceoff specialist
Luke Vitale (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlow) dominated the circle, winning 19 of his 23 attempts. Vitale had a game-high nine ground balls and Chapman picked up seven more. Chapman also caused a contest-best four turnovers.
The Bears are back in action next Wednesday at 7 p.m. when they host Oswego State for an important SUNYAC contest.
