CANTON, N.Y.-- After nearly a three-week break, the SUNY Potsdam softball team (5-9) returned to the field to take on St. Lawrence University (10-4). The Saints took both games with scores of 8-3 and 6-3. Sophomore shortstop
Grace Folmsbee (Red Hook, N.Y./Red Hook) made her season debut going 3-for-7 with an RBI and scored a run. Freshman third baseman
Abby Vaughn (Apalachin, N.Y./Owego Free Academy) went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run in game one.
Potsdam took the first lead of the day in the top of the first. Junior captain
Lucy Condon (Kitchener, Ontario/St. David Catholic) was on third when junior pitch
Megan Fish (Getzville, N.Y./Williamsville North) hit a single to shortstop and scored Condon. Â Â Â
The Bears tacked on another run in the second. With runners on second and third, freshman left fielder
Vanessa Brandt (Saugerties, N.Y./Saugerties) put the ball in play and brought in one.
St. Lawrence took the lead after scoring four runs in the second. Lauryn Best started it with an RBI double. One out later Gabby Slater scored best with a single. Angelina Carney helped bring in the last two runs after an error.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Saints brought in four more runs. Skylar Hein had a two RBI double. Sofia Adams tripled to left to score Hein, and McKailey Lyndaker brought in Adams with a single  Entering the fifth, St. Lawrence was ahead 8-2.
Potsdam got one run back in the fifth. Vaughn entered the batter's box in a bases loaded situation and singled through the right side to bring in one. The Bears could not get any more to cross the plate after that and lost game one 8-3.
Vaughn finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and Condon went 2-for-4 and scored twice.
Fish (2-3) received the loss after pitching 2.0 innings, allowing one earned run. Senior captain
Alissa McCauley (Malone, N.Y./Franklin Academy) pitched 3.0 innings, allowing four runs and struck out one. Freshman
Sierra Ashley (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon) pitched the final inning and did not give up a hit. Â Â Â Â
St. Lawrence got the first run in the bottom first of game two after scoring off a ground out.
The following inning they tacked on two more runs. Lyndaker scored off a wild pitch and Elle Gray scored after an error.
The Bears got two runs back in the top of fourth. Folmsbee started the inning with a single. Fish then singled to center and advanced Folmsbee to second. Freshman catcher
Hailey LaGiudice (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./Mt. Sinai) brought in both with a double to right center. Â
In the bottom half of the fourth, the Saints got both runs back after a double from Hein and a single from Adams.
Folmsbee scored one with a single to second in the top of the fifth to cut the deficit to two.
St. Lawrence got one more run in the sixth and ended the game winning 6-3.
Senior captain
Brooke Falsion (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) finished 2-for-3 with a run scored. Folmsbee finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. LaGiudice went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Ashley (0-2) received the loss after pitching 1.1 innings, allowing two runs and striking out two. Fish came in relief and pitched 4.2 innings, allowed three runs and struck out two.
Potsdam returns to action tomorrow as they kick off SUNYAC play against SUNY Cortland starting at 3 p.m.
