Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 16 Penn State-Behrend holds off Bears 2-1

WEST POINT, N.Y.—Sixteenth-ranked Penn State-Behrend (4-0) scored two goals in a 2:12 span of the second half and then held off the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (2-2-1) for a 2-1 win on Sunday afternoon. Senior forward Alejandro Callejas (Bayshore, N.Y./Brentwood) scored for the Bears.

As it was in Friday's match, defense continued to be the story this afternoon. The Bears and Lions matched each other with four shots apiece. Penn State-Behrend pressure resulted in three corner kicks, but Potsdam defused each situation. The contest was still scoreless at the break.

The Lion offense found a small seam in the Bears' defense seven minutes into the second half and made the most of it. At 52:01, Aaron Harris buried a feed from Matthew Romesberg. Romesberg continued to make plays 2:12 later as he connected with Richard Blanchard to make it 2-0. Potsdam was able to crack Penn State-Behrend's defense about 23 minutes later. Callejas struck for his fourth goal of the year with an assist from junior defender Brendan Wall (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) at 77:08. Potsdam had a chance to tie with 16 seconds left, but shot from freshman defender Raymond Jones (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) sailed high.

Sophomore goalkeeper Conor Callan (Piermont, N.Y./Tappan Zee) and Lions' goalie Matt Warnaka each finished with a save. The teams each had eight shots in the contest and Penn State-Behrend had four corners to the Bears' one.

Potsdam is back in action on Wednesday, when the Bears host Hobart College at 6 p.m. Potsdam edged the Statesmen 2-1 in Geneva a year ago.
