POTSDAM, N.Y.—After a tight first quarter, SUNY Geneseo (10-1, 3-1 SUNYAC) pulled away from the SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (4-6, 1-3) for a 90-48 victory on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore guard
Dyamon Hunter (Bronx, N.Y./Thurgood Marshall Academy) led all scorers with 17 points and sophomore
Devyn Elliott (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) and freshman guard
Bella Barner (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) each had nine points.
The Knights were unable to shake Potsdam in the first quarter. Hunter scored nine points on perfect 3-for-3 3-point shooting and sophomore forward
Alexis Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y./Williamsburg H.S. of Architecture and Design) hit the Bears fourth three. Elliott scored four points and the Bears grabbed the lead three times. Geneseo led 21-18 after 10 minutes.
The Knights distanced themselves from Potsdam in the second quarter on 10 of 13 shooting (76.9-percent) and built a 46-31 halftime lead. Geneseo continued to roll in the second half and clamped down on the defensive end of the court as well.
Freshman forward Lauren Romito (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) led the Knights with a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Junior forward Kerrin Montgomery (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) nearly matched her with 13 points and 12 boards. Freshman guard Hannah Stockman (Northport, N.Y./Northport) scored 11 points, while junior guard Lindsay Halpin (Irvington, N.Y./Lynbrook), senior guard Sara Ciotti (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) and freshman guard Taylor Hansen (Norwich, N.Y./Norwich) contributed 10 points apiece.
The Bears look to bounce back on Tuesday night when they host Plattsburgh State at 5:30 p.m.
