Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Colonels upend Bears late, 5-3

MILTON, MASS.—Curry College (10-3-2) scored three third period goals to slip past the SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team (2-11-1) 5-3 on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore defenseman Ethan Clark (Seven Valleys, Pa./New Hampshire Avalanche), sophomore forward Robert Clerc (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Oswego State) and senior captain Vincent Guimond (Sorel-Tracy, Quebec/Gloucester Rangers) each scored for the Bears.
 
The first period was tightly contested, but Clark got the Bears on the board first with a goal at 5:42. Senior assistant captain Nate Zweig (Binghamton, N.Y./Syracuse Stars) assisted on the play. Junior defenseman Jon Venter (Guilford, Conn./Syracuse Stars) started the play on a breakout and Clark hammered home the rebound of Zweig's shot. The Colonels evened the score at 13:46 on a goal from Billy Vizzo. Curry edged the Bears in shots 14-13 in the first period and the teams were even at the first intermission.
 
The Colonels opened the second period on the man advantage and the and Vizzo struck again 1:05 into the middle stanza. Just 55 seconds later, Curry went on another power play and peppered Bears freshman goalie Connor Green (New Port Richey, Fla./Tampa Bay Juniors), but couldn't add to the lead. Potsdam got even on its first power play expired with a goal at 12:28. Clerc tied the score after tipping a shot from junior defenseman Joseph Richardson (Palm Beach, Fla./PAL Islanders) into the goal. Sophomore forward Michael McArthur (St. Thomas, Ontario/Oswego State) picked up the second assist. The Bears regained the lead with eight seconds left in the period. Clerc one the faceoff to the left of Curry goalie Vladimir Cibulka, fought his way through a scrum and fed Guimond at top of the crease. Potsdam took the 3-2 lead into the second break. Green made 17 saves in the middle 20 minutes.
 
Jordan Williamson made it a 3-3 game 4:49 into the final period. Minutes later, the Bears were called for an elbowing penalty and Tristan Morin put the Colonels back in front at 9:12. Potsdam outshot Curry the rest of the way and pulled Green with less than a minute remaining, but couldn't get the equalizer. Mic Curran scored an empty-netter with 47 seconds remaining.
 
Green finished with 36 saves, while Cilbulka made 29 stops for the win. Potsdam was 0-for-2 on the power play and the Colonels were 2-for-3.
 
The contest marked the end of the Bears six-game road trip dating back to November. Potsdam hosts Neumann University for two games on Friday and Saturday night. Friday night's contest is scheduled for 7 p.m., while Saturday's has been moved up to 6 p.m.
