PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The SUNY Plattsburgh men's soccer team (8-7-1, 4-4-1) defeated the SUNY Potsdam Bears (2-12-2, 0-9) 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals offense put pressure on the Bears early as they outshot Potsdam 11-5 in the opening half of play. Plattsburgh's first scoring opportunity came in the 36th minute of the contest when Jai Coker booted a shot between the posts off an assist from Jack Healy and John Hayes. This served to be the lone goal of the half as the Cardinals took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
About 20 minutes into the second half, Alex Graci scored off an assist from Dylan Shalvey, resulting in a 2-0 Plattsburgh lead. Shortly after the second goal, Potsdam freshman defender
Nicholas Kelting (Saranac Lake, N.Y./Saranac Lake) sent a shot toward the goal but was stopped by Teddy Healy. Healy registered six saves on the afternoon as Plattsburgh State closed out the contest with a 2-0 score.
Potsdam sophomore goalkeeper
Dan Schaeber (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) secured seven saves in his first collegiate start.
The Bears are set to wrap up their season at SUNY Cobleskill on Tuesday, October 26 at 3 p.m.
