Chloe Gordon (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North) made three saves in the defensive battle.
Defense stifled the offenses in the first half as the teams combined for just five shots. Gordon and Pioneer goalie Courtney Connolly each made one save.
The offense arrived in the second half, with the Bears outshooting Utica 9-8. At 81:56, Kaela Mochak netted the contest's lone goal. The Bears responded with three quick shots in the next four minutes, but Connolly made two saves to preserve the victory.
The Bears outshot the Pioneers 12-10 and each team had four corner kicks apiece. Connolly finished with four saves.
The Bears are now off until September 24, when they head to SUNY Cortland to open SUNYAC play.
