POTSDAM, N.Y.- The Clarkson University men's soccer team (1-3-2) captured a 1-0 victory over the SUNY Potsdam Bears (1-2-2) at Maxcy Hall Turf Field on Wednesday night.
The contest between two cross-town rivals served to be a close one. Both teams traded shots throughout the night as the Golden Knights outshot the Bears 11-8. Potsdam's senior goalie
Conor Callan (Piermont, N.Y./Tappan Zee) made one save while Clarkson goalie Bryan Benitez (Houston, Texas/Challenge) turned aside four shots on the night.
The Golden Knights late push proved successful as midfielder Simon Falck (Landvetter, Sweden/Old Dominion) slipped an unassisted shot into the left-side of the net in the 81st minute of the contest. This goal proved to be the decisive tally. Â
Physical play was on showcase tonight as the game saw a total of 24 combined fouls between both squads.
The Bears are headed to St. Lawrence University next for a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday. They then are back home on Monday to face SUNY Canton at 7 p.m.
