Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Morrisville doubles up Potsdam, 6-3

MORRISVILLE, N.Y.—Morrisville State (5-5, 3-4 SUNYAC) scored two empty-net goals in the third period to defeat the SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team (3-9, 2-6) 6-3 on Wednesday night. Freshman forward Jeremy Quesnel (Alexandria, Ontario/Hawkesbury Hawks) scored two goals for the Bears and senior captain Nick Alfieri (Buffalo, N.Y./Buffalo Jr. Sabres) had the other goal.

The Mustangs struck first at 8:10 on a goal from Cameron Clark. Just 2:36 later, Alfieri tied the game with an assist from sophomore defenseman Drew Rose (Brasher Falls, N.Y./Utica Jr. Comets). Morrisville responded with more pressure after the goal. With just 1:51 left in the period, Chris Mott put the Mustangs back in front 2-1. Bears senior goalie Connor Green (New Port Richey, Fla./Tampa Bay Juniors) made 16 saves in the opening 20 minutes.

Quesnel evened the game again at 11:17 of the second period. Freshman forward Ryan Mahlmeister (Massapequa, N.Y./PAL Islanders) and freshman defenseman Michael Campbell (Toronto, Ontario/Jersey Whalers) picked up the assists. Special teams were the story of the rest of the period. James Boisvert made it a 3-2 contest on the man advantage at 15:39. At 18:10, Quesnel made the most of a shorthanded attempt and the contest was tied through 40 minutes.

Morrisville grabbed its fourth lead 3:16 into the third period. The Mustangs kept the Bears on the defensive for much of the period and they struggled to find the equalizer. With 1:15 left Potsdam called time out and pulled Green with a minute left. Five seconds later Richard Hart made it 5-3. With just seven seconds on the clock, Clark found the empty net a second time to close the scoring.

Green finished with 37 saves and Ryan Creenan made 25 stops to earn the win for Morrisville. Potsdam was 0-for-3 on the power play and the Mustangs were 1-for-2.

The Bears have a home and home series with SUNY Canton this weekend. They host the Roos at 7 p.m. on Friday and head to Canton for a 7 p.m. contest on Saturday.
