CANTON, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (8-11-1, 6-7-1 NEWHL) defeated SUNY Canton (12-7-1, 6-7-1) 4-1 on Tuesday evening to win the season series. Junior forward Kaylee Merrill (Wasilla, Alaska/Anchorage North Stars), junior defenseman Alex Quinn (Potsdam, N.Y./St. Lawrence Steel), freshman forward Karley Green (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam Ice Storm) and junior forward Megan Teachout (Auburn, N.Y./Oswego State) each scored for the Bears. Sophomore goalie Ellie Zurfluh (Aravada, Colo./Teram Colorado) evened her record at 6-6-1 for the season with 24 saves.

Merrill put Potsdam on the board first at 10:06 with an unassisted goal. Zurfluh stopped all nine shots she faced in the first period and Potsdam led 1-0 at the intermission.

The Kangaroos tied the game at 4:36 of the second period with a goal from Desiree Snook. Canton had two power plays during the middle 20 minutes but were unable to take the lead. At 17:05, Quinn scored her third goal in as many games to put the Bears up for good. Green and senior defenseman Makenzie Martin (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam High School) had the assists. Potsdam led 2-1 after 40 minutes.

The Bears added two insurance markers in the third period. Green scored just 1:32 into the final stanza on an assist from Teachout. At 9:33, Teachout struck on the power play for her fourth goal in four games and closed out the scoring.
