Saints defeat Bears

CANTON, N.Y. – The St. Lawrence University women's soccer team (3-0) defeated the SUNY Potsdam Bears (1-2) 7-0 on Sunday afternoon.

In the first half of the contest, both teams combined for a total of 10 shots in a hard-fought defensive battle. Freshman goalkeeper Rylee Semco (Slate Hill, N.Y./Minisink Valley) registered five saves in the opening 45 minutes, while Saints goalie Keely Snode turned away one shot. The game was scoreless at the break.

St. Lawrence broke open the scoring in the second half of play. In the 54th minute, Hope Donoghue put the Saints on the board. Nearly four minutes later, Kaitlyn Barton put through the second goal of the night. Two more goals were knocked in by Grace Mochnal and Meredith Donahue within a minute of each other. Towards the end of the half, Emma Casey and Tyler Potter finished off the scoring run for the Saints.

The Bears are back in action on Friday, September 9, when they will face tournament host New England College in Henniker, N.H.
