POTSDAM, N.Y.—Clarkson University (9-5) scored in the 74th minute to defeat the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (4-11-1) 1-0 in the Bears' season finale Tuesday night.
Defense was the story in the first half. The defenders of both teams locked down the contests. The Bears outshot the Golden Knights 4-1, but neither was able to test the other's goalkeeper.
Clarkson ramped up the pressure in the second half, outshooting Potsdam 8-6. Senior goalie
Lucas Schiel (Bremen, German/Colegio Humboldt) made four saves, but the Golden Knights finally broke through. At 73:13, freshman midfielder Jay Jezioro (Buffalo, N.Y./Niagara-Wheatfield) finished a feed from junior defender Remi Ufheil (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) for the contests lone goal.
Sophomore goalie Carter Kladstrup (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) finished with two saves for the shutout.
Potsdam finished with a 10-9 edge in shots, but Golden Knights had a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The contest marks the close of the careers of seniors
