Potsdam, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's volleyball team (6-19, 0-9 SUNYAC) fell to Buffalo State (15-11, 5-4 SUNYAC) and Vassar (14-9) on Saturday afternoon in its final home matches. Potsdam fell 3-0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-19) to the Bengals and by the same count to the Brewers (25-18, 25-15, 25-16).
Against the Bengals, junior opposite
Alyssa Adams (Jamestown, N.Y./Randolph) put up a team-high 11 kills, while senior opposite
Kendall Jones (Parker, Colo./Elizabeth) contributed five kills for the Bears. Adams and Jones combined to produce 16 of the 24 total kills during the SUNYAC match up. Sophomore setter
Sophia Layer (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) had 14 of the 23 assists. Junior outside hitter
Megan Henry (Candor, N.Y./Candor) and freshman defensive specialist
Madison Gilliland (Roseville, Ga./ Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe) each had nine digs. Adams also was credited with eight digs during this SUNYAC match up.
For Buffalo State, Erin Mergler led her team with eight kills and one block. Karlie Shaffer had 21 assists and Adj Vergara had nine digs.
In the second match with Vassar, Henry led the Bears with 10 kills and Adams was right behind her with seven. Layer had 16 assists and a service ace. Gilliland led the team in digs with 10. Adams was credited with eight digs, while both Layer and Henry put up four digs apiece.
For the Brewers, Holland Kaplan led with 11 kills. Melia Voss was credited for 20 assists on the day and T Petro racked up 12 digs.
The Bears close the season next Saturday, November 4, as they head to Canton to face St. Lawrence University at 7:30 p.m.
