Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Mustangs blank Bears on the road, 2-0

MORRISVILLE, N.Y.—Morrisville State (2-1, 1-1 SUNYAC) scored in the first and third period to defeat the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (2-1, 1-1) 2-0 on Saturday evening. Sophomore goalie Magalie Parent (Trois-Rivières, Quebec/Les Diablos – Cégep de Trois-Rivières) made 25 saves for the Bears.

Potsdam outshot the Mustangs 13-8 in the opening 20 minutes. The Bears killed the first penalty of the game at 6:42, but Morrisville struck just over two minutes later. Allicen Bouchard put the Mustangs up 1-0 at 8:44. Potsdam pressed after the goal, but Morrisville goalie Elizabeth Timby kept them off the board.

The Bears continued to attack through the second period. They built an 16-8 shot advantage, but more stellar play by Timby continued to frustrate them. Each team had an unsuccessful power play during the stanza, but the score was unchanged after two.

Potsdam went on a 5-on-3 power play early in the third period, but weren't able to find the equalizer. At 8:37, Zoe Leas scored to double Morrisville's advantage. The Mustangs played strong two-way hockey for the rest of the contest and kept the Bears from breaking through.

Timby finished with 37 stops for the shutout. Potsdam outshot the Mustangs 37-27 and each team went 0-for-5 on the power play.

The Bears are back in action on November 17, when they host No. 3 Plattsburgh State in a SUNYAC battle.
