ALBANY, N.Y. – The SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (1-7) fell to former SUNYAC rival Division I University of Albany (6-3) 98-59 at the Broadview Center. Senior guard
Colton Huestis (Ticonderoga, N.Y./Ticonderoga) paced the Bears with 11 points. This is the first time the Bears have played the Great Danes since 2019.

Kawar Singh (Queens, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) scored the first points of the contest off a contested free-throw jumper thirty seconds into the opening half. Albany then routed a 6-0 run in the following two minutes to put the Great Danes ahead 10-4 at 17:16. Great Danes forward Sebastian Thomas had four points in the run. Potsdam broke the momentum swing at 15:43 when junior guard
Jeff Williamson (Brooklyn, N.Y./Christ the King) hauled in his own rebound and side-stepped his way to the basket for the and-one opportunity. He made the extra point, cutting the Albany lead 12-7. After holding the Great Danes to one point scored in the next minute, Huestis netted his first three-pointer of the game off a helper from junior forward
Shaheed Alcide (Queens, N.Y./Cambria Heights Academy) to trim the lead to five. Freshman guard
Nicholas Cortez (New York, N.Y./Forest Hills) drained three points for the Bears and Huestis hit his second three-pointer of the half as the Potsdam continued their comeback effort. The Great Danes went on an 18-6 run in the final five minutes to take the 56-29 advantage into halftime. Huestis and Williamson had eight and six points, respectively for the Bears in the half.
Two minutes into the second half, the Bears routed a 6-2 run started by Williamson who made a layup off an offensive rebound. Junior guard
MeSean Johnson (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Ogdensburg Free Academy) made a short floater and senior guard
Isaac Oduro Jr. (Queens, N.Y./Christ the King) scored a pull-up jumper in the run. At 15:43, Johnson dumped the ball down low to junior forward
Parker Kelly (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown) who made a turn-around jumper in the paint, but the Bears still trailed 63-37. Freshman guard
Ethan Baksh (Queens, N.Y./Richmond Hill) was a perfect 4-4 from the free-throw line and freshman guard Matthew Szymanksi (New York, N.Y./Brooklyn Tech) scored his first career points on a pair of free throws as the Great Danes closed out the home victory.
Williamson scored nine points and Johnson had eight points to round out the leaders for the Bears.
The Great Danes were led by Marcus Jackson and Tyler Bertram who both netted 12 points each.
The Bears are back in action when they host SUNY Poly this Saturday, Dec. 9, at 2 p.m.
