AURORA, N.Y. – The SUNY Potsdam men's volleyball team (9-10) bowed to Geneva College (9-11) in five sets before sweeping Wells College (0-10) 3-0 Saturday afternoon.
The Bears fought hard but dropped the opening match to Geneva College in five sets (27-25, 19-25, 23-25, 31-29, 9-15). Graduate student outside hitter
Joe Zimmerman (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) registered a team-high 18 kills and 11 digs. Freshman outside hitter
Duncan Tenhagen (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca West) tallied 11 kills and nine digs while sophomore middle hitter
Matt Kilinski (Greenfield Center, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) and junior middle hitter
Jason Hendler (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) rounded out Potsdam's offense with 10 and eight kills, respectively. Graduate student setter
Cooper Colesante (Central Square, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) led the Bears in assists with 26 while also posting 12 digs. Graduate student setter
Alec Roy (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) recorded 18 assists to compliment his teammate. Junior outside hitter
Tom Shemik (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) had a career-high 24 digs to aid Potsdam's defense.
Byron spear paced the Golden Tornadoes with 17 kills and 13 digs. Jake Williams registered 15 kills and 14 digs while teammate Carter Milroy had 10 kills. Decker Milroy tallied 40 assists, 10 digs, and two aces.
Potsdam swept Wells College 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-18) in the second game of the afternoon. Junior outside hitter
Sam Day (Phelps, N.Y./Midlakes) recorded a career-high 10 kills in the victory while Tenhagen had another solid performance with eight kills and 10 digs. Colesante tallied five kills, 12 assists, and one ace. Junior setter
Michael Anderson (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) followed closely behind with 10 assists. Senior outside hitter Zaire Rodgers (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Cheektowaga) and junior middle hitter
Sean Murray (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) both registered four kills to round out the scoring for the Bears.
Connor Garvey led Wells College with seven kills, 12 digs, and one ace. Confidence Burrowes matched his teammate with seven kills while Mason Moon had 17 assists and one ace.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday, March 11 when they host Eastern Nazarene College for their NECC opener at 12 p.m.
