GENESEO, N.Y.—SUNY Geneseo (16-5, 11-3 SUNYAC) defeated the SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (8-11, 6-9) 67-43 on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore forward
Jenna Cotter (Johnson City, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) matched a career-high with 11 points to go with eight rebounds. Senior guard
Dyamon Hunter (Bronx, N.Y./Thurgood Marshall Academy) had 10 points and four assists and sophomore guard
Xy'El Bradford (Syracuse, N.Y./Syracuse Academy of Science) added nine points.
The first quarter was low scoring as the teams started out cool from the floor. Neither team led by more than two points and they alternated leads. The Knights were on top 8-7 after 10 minutes. Hunter hit a three during the first.
Geneseo pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring the Bears 23-12. After Hunter hit another three at 5:36 to get the Bears within 17-14, the Knights closed the half on a 14-5 run. Junior guard
Bella Barner (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) also hit a three and Cotter scored four points. The hosts led 31-19 at the break.
Potsdam matched Geneseo point-for-point for the first nine minutes of the third quarter, but couldn't make up any ground. Back-to-back buckets in the final minute gave the Knights a 50-34 lead after 30 minutes. Bradford scored six points in the third and Hunter added another four.
Geneseo cemented the win in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bears 17-9. Bradford added three more points to her total in the last 10 minutes.
Kerry Dennin registered a double-double for the Knights with 17 points and 11 boards. Lauren Romito also had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Hannah Stockman was the third Knight in double digits with 10 points.
The Bears return home for their final four games of the regular season. Potsdam hosts Buffalo State on Friday at 5:30 p.m. for Bear Pride Night.
