POTSDAM, N.Y.—Clarkson University (7-7) defeated the SUNY Potsdam softball team (2-8) 7-1 and 3-0 on blustery day in the North Country. Senior first baseman
Anna Grottola (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) had three hits and an RBI for the Bears.
Potsdam jumped in front in the top of the first as Grottola doubled to center to bring in sophomore shortstop
Kaylee Dobransky (New Britain, Conn./CREC Academy of Science & Innovation). The Golden Knights took the lead in the bottom of the first with an RBI double and a sacrifice fly. They added another run in the bottom of the second on another double. Clarkson then put the game out of reach with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. The big blow was a two-run homer off the bat of Golden Knight hurler Riley Page.
Grottola was 2-for-2 in the contest and sophomore second baseman
Kiara Lovejoy (Lansing, N.Y./Lansing), Dobransky, junior catcher
Alexa Abbatantuono (Corinth, N.Y./Corinth) and senior pitcher
Chesnie York (Corinth, N.Y./Corinth) accounted for the other four hits.
Clarkson first baseman Devin Fitzpatrick was 2-for-2 with a run and four RBI. Centerfielder Emma Sabourin was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
York (2-3) allowed seven runs on eight hits and four walks in five innings. Graduate student
Sierra Ashley (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Lisbon) struck out the side in a scoreless sixth. Page (4-3) allowed just the one run, while striking out six in six innings for Clarkson. Rylee Broadwell pitched a perfect seventh inning.
In the finale, the Golden Knights scored a run in the first, third and sixth innings for the 3-0 shutout. Right fielder Bridget Kerwin knocked in the first run with a double to left center. Second baseman Molly Pezzano singled in the second run and Page knocked in the final run with a ground out.

Lexie Cottrill (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) each had a hit for Potsdam.
Cottrill (0-2) allowed two runs on six hits in four innings. Junior
Anna Brown (Ellenburg Depot, N.Y./Northern Adirondack) allowed an unearned run without a hit in the last two innings. Fitzpatrick (3-2) allowed just four hits and struck out four.
The Bears head to Central New York this weekend. On Saturday, they start a doubleheader at Cobleskill at noon. At the same time on Sunday, the Bears travel to Cazenovia for two more.
