NAPLES, FLA.—The SUNY Potsdam softball team (1-3) split in back-to-back extra inning contests falling to Anna Maria College (2-6) 3-2 and walking it off against Grove City College (2-2) in the eighth frame by a 3-2 score on Tuesday morning on Day Two of the Gene Cusic Classic.

In Game One, sophomore pitcher
Lexie Cottrill (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) threw four shutout innings before senior first baseman
Anna Grottola (Ronkonkoma, N.Y/Connetquot) opened the scoring after she singled to lead off the fifth. Anna Maria got its scoring off to a start in the bottom half where Rory Hughes drove in Madison-Marie Romano with a single to right.

The scoreboard was untouched until extra innings when senior two-way defender,
Chesnie York (Corinth, N.Y./Corinth) roped a double to right field, scoring sophomore outfielder
Danielle Moscarello (Arlington, Vt./Mount Anthony Union). The Amcats put together a series of singles in the bottom of the eighth to score two baserunners, just edging past Potsdam.

In the afternoon contest, junior pitcher
Anna Brown (Ellenburg Depot, N.Y./Northern Adirondack) started the game tossing three scoreless while only letting up one hit. Junior catcher
Alexa Abbatantuono (Corinth, N.Y./Corinth) put one through the 5-6 gap to score sophomore shortstop
Kaylee Dobransky (New Britain Conn./CREC Academy of Science and Innovation). The Bears scored in their second consecutive inning, as Abbatantuono walked in senior outfielder
Emily Beck (Lowville, N.Y./Beaver River).

The Wolverines tied the game after scoring off a wild pitch and a fielder's choice to send the Bears into their second extra inning game of the day. Cottrill scored off a fielder's-choice-throwing-error to give Potsdam its first win of the season.

The Bears offense outhit their opponents 18-14 on the day.

Cottrill, Brown and York split the pitching today allowing just one earned run.

The Bears are back in action on Thursday March 9, with two games. They face Grove City again at 9:00 a.m. and Rockford University at 1:00 p.m.
