Brockport upends Potsdam

POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Brockport (2-5, 1-1 SUNYAC) defeated the SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team (2-6, 0-3) 14-3 on Saturday afternoon. Junior captain Lindsey LaDue (Massena, N.Y./Massena) scored two goals for the Bears. Sophomore midfielder Mia Martin (Six Nations, Ontario/McKinnon Park Secondary) also had a goal.
 
Martin opened the scoring 10:56 into the contest, dumping a behind-the-back shot past Golden Eagles freshman goalie Hannah Parsons (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy). Brockport senior attack Cassidy Burnash (Sackets Harbor, N.Y./South Jefferson) tied the game at 4:43 and senior midfielder Courtney Cunningham (Poughquag, N.Y./Arlington) put the Eagles up for good just over a minute later. Brockport led 2-1 after a quarter.
 
It was all Golden Eagles in the second quarter as they scored all six goals. Burnash scored two goals and assisted on three as Brockport headed into the break leading 8-1
 
LaDue netted her first at 10:48 of the third quarter, but the Eagles answered with the last four. Burnash assisted on three of the markers, two coming from Cunningham. It was 12-2 after 45 minutes.
 
Burnash then set up two more goals in the fourth quarter, before LaDue closed the scoring with a goal at 2:48.
 
Freshman Jane Olszewski (Thornwood, N.Y./Westlake) allowed two goals and made four saves in the first quarter for the Bears. Sophomore Abbigail Crahan (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) made three saves and allowed six goals in the second quarter for Potsdam. Freshman Olivia Minarich (Albany, N.Y./Albany) allowed six goals and made five stops in the final 30 minutes.
 
Parsons earned the win, making eight saves in the first 58:02.
 
Sophomore defender Tessa Pierce (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) and sophomore midfielder Mallory Marks (Brownville, N.Y./General Brown) each collected four ground balls and three draw controls for Potsdam.
 
Burnash finished with 11 points on three goals and eight assists to lead Brockport. Junior midfielder Julia Quinlan (Saugerties, N.Y./Saugerties) had four goals.
 
The Bears are back in action Tuesday, when they host SUNY New Paltz at 4 p.m.
