Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Big second half lifts Bears over Fighting Tigers, 4-0

COBLESKILL, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (2-0) scored three second half goals in a 4-0 victory over SUNY Cobleskill (0-2) on Saturday afternoon. Freshman midfielder Jake Trubia (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) had a goal and assist and senior captain Luke Clark (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) contributed two assists. Junior forward Justin Mossey (Amity Harbor, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial), junior captain Zach Cunningham (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) and freshman defender Rick Chatland (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) also scored. Sophomore goalie Ian Schwartz (Amsterdam, N.Y./Broadalbin-Perth) stopped three shots in 81:40 to earn his first career victory.

The Bears controlled the play in the first half, but didn't get on the board until the 34th minute. Trubia lofted a cross toward the goal and Mossey headed home for a 1-0 lead. Schwartz and Cobleskill keeper Adam Champlin each made three saves in the first half.

Potsdam wasted no time in the second half. At 51:22, Trubia scored his first career goal on a pass from Clark. Just 3:37 later, Cunningham struck on another helper from Clark. With 38 seconds remaining, Chatland closed the scoring with the first goal of his career after picking up a feed from junior defender Curtis Arnold (Northville, N.Y./Northville) to make it 4-0.

Freshman goalie Sam Allen (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) played the final 8:20 of the contest, but didn't face a shot in his college debut.

Champlin finished with six stops for the Fighting Tigers. The Bears outshot Cobleskill 17-4 and had a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Potsdam is back in action on Friday, when the Bears take on Western Connecticut State at 4:30 p.m. in the first round of the MCLA Fall Soccer Classic.
