Knights overpower Bears

POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Geneseo (9-4, 4-2 SUNYAC) started strong and defeated the SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (5-7, 1-5) 78-48 on Friday evening. Junior guard Carley Hill (Essex, Vt. Rice Memorial) led the Bears with 11 points and junior guard Xy'El Bradford (Syracuse, N.Y./Syracuse Academy of Science) had nine.

Junior forward Jenna Cotter (Johnson City, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) scored twice early, but Geneseo answered with an 18-2 run to build a 20-6 lead through 10 minutes. Junior guard Zavia Jaime (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford) had Potsdam's other basket in the first.

The Knights started the second quarter on a 7-0 run and led 27-6 at 6:58. The Bears finally got their offense going and outscored Geneseo 13-12 the rest of the way. Hill was a big part of the breakout, hitting three 3-pointers. Junior guard Mikayla Shipley (North Chili, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) and Bradford accounted for the other four Bears points. The Knights led 39-19 at the break.

Geneseo held on to their advantage in the third quarter, edging the Bears 21-17. Graduate student forward Jakia Howard (Syracuse, N.Y./Nottingham) led Potsdam with eight points. Bradford and junior guard Barbara Bruno (Bronx, N.Y./Brooklyn HS for Law and Tech) each added four points. The Knights were up 60-36 after 30 minutes.

The fourth quarter was much like the third, with Geneseo outscoring the Bears 18-12. Junior forward Olivia Latham (Brooklyn, N.Y./John Dewey) and Bradford had three points apiece to lead Potsdam over the final 10 minutes. Hill, Cotter and Jaime made up the other six.

Howard finished with eight points and five rebounds and Cotter had six points.

Senior guard Kiley Snow (Whitesboro, N.Y./Whitesboro) led the Knights with 14 points, while graduate student guard Hannah Stockman (Northport, N.Y./Northport) and freshman forward Audrey Hintz (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) each scored 13.
