BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (3-15, 2-8 SUNYAC) fell to SUNY Brockport (12-5, 8-3 SUNYAC) 83-74 on Friday evening. Senior guard Colton Huestis (Ticonderoga, N.Y./Ticonderoga) scored a game-high 26 points on 5-8 shooting from 3-point range.

Huestis got the Bears on the board three minutes into the opening half off a jump-shot in the paint. After a made free-throw by Brockport guard Tony Arnold, Potsdam went on a 5-1 run to extend their lead to four at 14:37. Huestis made a jump-shot and junior forward Parker Kelly (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown) sank a pair of free-throws during the run. Both teams continued to trade baskets until the Bears took back the 21-19 lead on a turnaround jumper from junior forward Kawar Singh (Queens, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) with 6:47 remaining in the first half. One minute later, freshman guard Erik Wall (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) nailed a 3-pointer off an assist from freshman guard Nicholas Cortez (New York, N.Y./Forest Hills) to extend their lead 24-21. The Golden Eagles fought back in the final 33 seconds to take a 34-33 lead into the break.

Potsdam came out of the locker room on fire, scoring the first six points of the second half. Huestis and Williamson sank the 3-pointers to give the Bears a 39-34 advantage at 18:25. Neither team gained any momentum until junior guard Kaleb Lewis (Greenfield, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) sank two free throws midway through the second half. Huestis scored two more points off free throws to give Potsdam their largest lead of the evening 60-54 with 11:11 remaining. Brockport chipped their way back into the game, routing a 10-2 run to close the gap to two points in the following three minutes. Thirty seconds later at 8:07, freshman guard Ethan Baksh (Queens, N.Y./Richmond Hill) sank one from deep to send the Bears up 67-62. The Golden Eagles reclaimed the lead 71-69 at the 4:42 mark off a pair of made free throws from Alex Tavarez.
