Plattsburgh downs Bears

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.—Plattsburgh State (10-9, 7-5 SUNYAC) defeated the SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (3-17, 2-10) 92-61 on Tuesday night. Senior guard Colton Huestis (Ticonderoga, N.Y./Ticonderoga) led the Bears with 18 points and five rebounds. Junior guard Parker Kelly (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown) scored 14 points and grabbed five boards.
 
Senior guard Colton Huestis (Ticonderoga, N.Y./Ticonderoga) hit a 3-pointer four minutes into the contest to tie the score at 7-7. The Cardinals then pulled away with a 14-5 run and led 21-12 at 7:50. Four straight points from freshman guard Nicholas Cortez (New York, N.Y./Forest Hills) and a turn-round jumper from senior guard Isaac Oduro Jr. ( Jamaica, N.Y./Christ the King) at 5:55 got the Potsdam within 21-18. Plattsburgh answered with a 10-2 run capped by Dylan Trombley to grab a 31-20 lead. The Cardinals held a double-digit lead most of the rest of the half and took a 41-31 advantage into the break. Huestis had 13 points in the first 20 minutes and Oduro scored eight.
 
Plattsburgh continued to pull away in the second half. Franklin Infante scored with a layup at 14:14 to give the Cardinals a 64-43 lead. The Bears couldn't close the gap. Kelly scored 10 points in the half and Huestis added another five.
 
Oduro finished the night with 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Cortez scored seven and grabbed six boards.
 
Ikechukwu Ezike led all scorers with 22 points for the Cardinals. Kevin Tabb had 15 points and Trombley finished his night with 12 points.
 
The Bears are back in action on Friday night when they host SUNY Cortland at 7:30 p.m.
