POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's volleyball team (8-7, 1-3 SUNYAC) lost matches to SUNY Cortland (15-5, 4-0) and Skidmore College (8-12) by identical 3-0 scores on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED (CORTLAND)
- The Red Dragons opened up a big lead early and rolled to a 25-9 set one win.
- It was more of the same in set two, Cortland picking up a 25-8 win.
- A 4-0 run by the Bears gave them a 12-8 advantage over the Red Dragons, but Cortland rallied for the 25-18 win. Senior opposite Alyssa Adams (Jamestown, N.Y./Randolph) had three kills and senior captain Megan Henry (Candor, N.Y./Candor had two.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (CORTLAND)
- Adams had seven kills and four digs, while Henry finished with six kills, three assists and an ace.
- Sophomore setter Gabriella Luna (Schenectady, N.Y./Mekeel Christian Academy) contributed 12 assists and sophomore libero Rachel Madore (Peru, N.Y./Peru) had eight digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED (SKIDMORE)
- The Bears played catch up for much of the first set with the Thoroughbreds before falling 25-19. Sophomore outside hitter Emily Prest (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) had three kills.
- After a slow start to the second set, Potsdam battled back to tie the score at 20-20 in set two. However, Skidmore claimed the last five points for a 25-20 win. Adams, Henry and senior middle hitter Santara Hart (Meridian, Idaho/Meridian) each had two kills.
- The Thoroughbreds outlasted the Bears in a marathon 29-27 set three to take the match. Adams had another six kills in the set.
INSIDE THE NUMBERD (SKIDMORE)
- Adams led the way again with nine kills, 10 digs, three blocks and two aces.
- Prest added six kills and Henry had five kills and 13 digs.
- Madore had another seven assists and Luna and freshman setter Meridith Harnden (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) contributed five apiece.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Bears travel to Paul Smith's College on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. nonconference match with the Bobcats. Potsdam swept the Bobcats in their home opener on September 10.
