Bears sweep Roos in first ever SUNYAC meeting

CANTON, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's volleyball team (10-8, 2-4 SUNYAC) defeated SUNY Canton (9-12, 1-4) 3-0 on Saturday afternoon in the teams' first ever meeting as SUNYAC opponents.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Set one was never separated by more than two points until a 7-1 Bears run gave Potsdam a 25-20 victory.
  • The Bears started set two quickly, opening up a 10-5 lead. However, Canton rallied for a brief 17-15 advantage. Potsdam battled back for the 25-22 win.
  • Set three came down to the wire, with Canton leading 24-22. Fortunately, a 4-0 rally, which included two kills from senior captain Megan Henry (Candor, N.Y./Candor), lifted the Bears to a 26-24 win and a 3-0 match victory.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Senior outside hitter Alyssa Adams had 14 kills and an ace.
  • Henry finished with 13 kills, three blocks and seven digs.
  • Sophomore outside hitter Emily Prest (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) contributed eight kills and eight digs.
  • Junior setter Sophia Layer (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) had another strong day with 35 assists, eight digs and two aces.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Bears host Plattsburgh State in another critical SUNYAC contest on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
