Hawks edge Bears on the road, 2-1

NEW PALTZ, N.Y.—A second half goal lifted SUNY New Paltz (5-4-1, 1-0-1 SUNYAC) to a 2-1 victory against the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (4-4-2, 0-2) on Wednesday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hawks opened the scoring at 13:58 on a goal from Owen McGarrity with an assist from Brian Boylan.
  • Potsdam countered at 16:50 as senior captain Justin Mossey (Amity Harbor, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) tied the score with an assist from fellow senior captain Zach Cunningham (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East).
  • At 69:27, Ryan Zinder finished a feed from Riley Tait for the eventual game-winner.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • New Paltz outshot the Bears 11-5 and had an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Freshman goalie James Kelm (Chester, N.Y./Chester Academy) made six saves in his first career start.
  • Goalie Christian Micheli stopped three shots for the win.
