POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team (4-3, 2-1 SUNYAC) exploded for five goals and had a perfect night from sophomore goalie
Lenny Perno (Rochester, N.Y./Richmond Generals) for a 5-0 win over Morrisville State (1-6, 0-3).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Freshman forward Andrew Blanchard (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Pennsylvania Huntsmen) knocked home a loose puck at 9:13 of the first period. Junior forwards Jeremy Quesnel (Alexandria, Ontario/Hawkesbury Hawks) and Max Klanow (Holly, Mich./Hawkesbury Hawks) had the assists.
- Quesnel beat Morrisville freshman goalie Will Goumas (Brampton, Ontario/Aurora Tigers) five-hole to double the lead at 12:13 with assists from Blanchard and sophomore defenseman Eli Doughart-Wood (St. Louis, Mo./Navan Grads).
- Sophomore defenseman Ben Presley (Greenwich, Conn./Protec Jr. Ducks) stopped a Mustangs clearing attempt at the left point and scored at 12:18 of the second period to make it 3-0.
- Senior captain Drew Rose (Brasher Falls, N.Y./Utica Jr. Comets) stole the puck along the right boards, cut in front of the net to make it 4-0 at 15:39.
- Freshman forward Finnegan Kilmurray (Ottawa, Ontario/Smiths Falls Bears) scored his first career goal off a faceoff at 16:21. Junior forward Payton Felix (De Peyster, N.Y./Northeast Generals) assisted on the play to make it 5-0.
- The Bears had penalty trouble in the third period, but Perno made 23 saves in the last 20 minutes to preserve the shutout.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Morrisville outshot the Bears 34-28.
- Mustangs finished 0-for-6 on the power play and Potsdam went 0-for-5.
- Perno finished with 34 saves for his ninth career win and third shutout.
- Goumas stopped 18 shots and allowed all five goals in the first 40 minutes.
- Morrisville junior goalie Grant Linville (Edmond, Okla./Seahawks Hockey) stopped all five shots he faced in the third period.
