Bears bruise Wildcats, 22-6

POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team improved to 2-0 on the season with a lopsided 22-6 win over SUNY Poly (2-3) on Thursday evening. Senior captain Lindsey LaDue (Massena, N.Y./Massena) had a career night with seven points on four goals and three assists. Graduate student attack Anita Reitano (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) matched her with seven points (4-3). She now has 191 points on 121 goals and 70 assists.
 
Junior midfielder Tessa Pierce (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) also had a career-best five points on three goals and two assists. Junior attack Mallory Marks (Brownville, N.Y./General Brown) matched a career-high with two goals and two assists. Freshman Kawenokewiio Mitchell (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) also recorded four points in just the second game of her career on two goals and two assists. Freshman defender Kiah Delles (Philadelphia, N.Y./Indian River) scored her first two collegiate goals back-to-back. Freshman attack Abby Kraus (Buffalo, N.Y./Frontier) added two goals and graduate student midfielder Taylor Swamp (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) also scored for the Bears.
 
Sophomore goalie Jane Olszewski (Thornwood, N.Y./Westlake) picked up the win after stopping three shots and allowing three goals in the first half. Freshman Allyson Bruns (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) allowed a goal and made a save in the third quarter and sophomore Olivia Minarich (Albany, N.Y./Albany) stopped a shot and allowed two goals in the fourth.
 
Senior midfielder Katie Kopcza (Whitesboro, N.Y./Whitesboro) led the Wildcats with two goals and three assists. Sophomore midfielder Katelynn Truax (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford) scored twice. Senior attack Madison Bastien (Ilion, N.Y./Central Valley Academy) and sophomore midfielder Callie Johnson (Verona, N.Y./Vernon Verona Sherrill) each had a goal.
 
Sophomore goalie Jayden Brown (Black River,  N.Y./Carthage) finished with nine stops for SUNY Poly.
 
The Bears led 7-2 after the first quarter, 14-3 at the half and 18-4 through three quarters. LaDue claimed nine draw controls and four ground balls. Pierce had four ground balls and four turnovers.
 
Potsdam is back in action at noon on Saturday when Alfred University comes to Maxcy Turf Field.
