FREDONIA, N.Y.—SUNY Fredonia (8-12, 3-3 SUNYAC) took two from the SUNY Potsdam softball team (8-10, 2-4 SUNYAC) on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Devils took the opener 7-2 and the finale 9-5.
The Bears struck first in game one. Graduate student left fielder
Emily Beck (Lowville, N.Y./Beaver River) led off the top of the third with a single and scored on a ground out from junior second baseman
Kaylee Dobransky (New Britain, Conn./CREC Academy of Science and Innovation).
The Blue Devils responded with five runs on five hits in the bottom of the fifth. Fredonia got RBI singles from right fielder Madison Lowe and shortstop Allie Wandell and a two run double from left fielder Alyssa Santiago. They added a final run on an error for a 5-1 advantage.
Potsdam got a run back in the top of the fourth. Senior catcher
Kelsey Bennett (Hammond, N.Y./Hammond) hit a one out triple. Junior third baseman
Kaylee LaForest (Cohoes, N.Y./Cohoes) followed with a single to bring her in and close the gap to three.
Second baseman Madison Devore tacked on a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth to close the scoring at 7-2.

Lexie Cottrill (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) (3-5) allowed seven runs, six earned, on 10 hits in the first four innings for the Bears. Freshman
Hannah Agans (Brasher Falls, N.Y./St. Lawrence Central) allowed a hit in in two scoreless innings.
Dobransky and LaForest were each 1-for-3 with an RBI. Bennett was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Beck was 1-for-2 with a run.
Emily Chelius (3-2) went the distance for the Blue Devils. She allowed two runs on five hits and struck out nine.
Devore finished 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Wandell was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Chelius was 2-for-4 and Santiago was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Third baseman Kayla Lynn 2-for-2 with two runs.
Game two started similarly. Dobransky scored on an error in the top of the first to put the Bears up 1-0. Fredonia answered with five runs on five hits in the bottom of the inning. Chelius tied the game with a single. First baseman Alaina Hogue then hit a two-run homer to make it 3-1. Lowe followed with an RBI triple and right fielder Courtney Peregosky knocked in the fifth run with a single.
Fredonia added three more on four hits in the bottom of the second. Hogue doubled in two runs and Santiago singled to make it 8-1.
The Bears finally got their offense rolling in the top of the fifth. Senior designated player
Hailey Bushaw (Philadelphia, N.Y./Indian River) got things going with a single. With one out, freshman right fielder
Sophia Pleat (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) moved Bushaw to second with a single. Junior shortstop
Kiara Lovejoy (Lansing, N.Y./Lansing) walked to load the bases. LaForest then cleared the bases with double, making it 8-4. With two outs, senior first baseman
Kat Tompkins (Pleasant Valley, N.Y./Arlington) knocked in LaForest with another single. Potsdam trailed by three after four and a half innings. The Blue Devils got a run back in the bottom of the fifth, taking advantage of an error to close the scoring.
Graduate student
Sierra Ashley (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Lisbon) (3-3) allowed five runs on four hits and a walk in 0.2 innings. Agans pitched the next 1.1 innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits and two walks. Senior
Anna Brown (Ellenburg Depot, N.Y./Northern Adirondack) was solid in relief, allowing an unearned run on three hits over the last four innings.
LaForest led the Bears' offense, going 2-for-3 with a run and three RBI.
Marlowe (1-3) allowed five runs, four earned, on six hits, while striking out 11. Vanessa Galbraith allowed a hit in 1.2 innings and Chelius walked one in one inning pitched.
Wandell was 2-for-3 with two runs. Hogue was 2-for-4 with two runs and four RBI. Santiago was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Chelius was 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Lowe was 1-for-2 with a run, a walk and an RBI. Peregosky was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
The Bears are back in action on Wednesday when they host St. Lawrence University in a nonconference doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
