POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Poly (24-8) swept a doubleheader from the SUNY Potsdam softball team (14-22) on Monday afternoon to close out the season. The Wildcats took game one 10-2 and escaped 9-8 in game two.
In the opener, Poly scored twice in the first inning, three times in the second and third and twice more in the fourth. The Bears got on the board in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run single from junior second baseman

Anna Brown (Ellenburg Depot, N.Y./Northern Adirondack) (3-7) allowed eight runs on 11 hits and four walks for the Bears in three innings. Freshman
Hannah Agans (Brasher Falls, N.Y./St. Lawrence Central) allowed two runs on two hits in the last two innings.
Dobransky was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Senior designated player

Sophia Pleat (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) was 1-for-1. Holmes was 1-for-2 with a run.
Senior pitcher Trinity Critelli (Frankfort, N.Y./Frankfort-Schuyler) (14-4) allowed two runs on four hits and struck out nine in the five innings for the Wildcats.
Sophomore centerfielder Alivia Turk (Williamstown, N.Y./Altmar-Parish-Williamstown) was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Senior second baseman Kimberly Birmingham (Camden, N.Y./Camden) was 3-for-3 with a run and three RBI. Senior designated player Joy Stevens (Marcy, N.Y./Homeschooled) was 2-for-2 with a run and two RBI. Sophomore right fielder Kelly Powell (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) was 2-for-3 with two runs and senior first baseman Taylor Hunter (Weedsport, N.Y./Weedsport) was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
SUNY Poly started quickly in the second contest as well, scoring three in the first and two in the second. Birmingham had an RBI single, and Stevens drove in two in the first. Turk doubled in a run in the second and Birmingham plated the other with a single.
The Bears got two back in the bottom of the third. Freshman right fielder

Anna Grottola (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) to close the gap to 5-2. Stevens answered for the Wildcats with an RBI single in the top of the third.
The Bears finally broke through in the bottom of the seventh. Senior catcher
Kelsey Bennett (Hammond, N.Y./Hammond) doubled in Grottola. Moscarello followed with an infield hit to bring in Bennett. Dean then struck again, doubling to tie the game and score Moscarello and junior pinch runner
Tatumn Pascal (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles). The hit sent the game to extra innings.
SUNY Poly scored three times in the top of the eighth. Senior infielder Amy DeSena (Frankfort, N.Y./Frankfort-Schuyler) drove in two with a single. Sophomore second baseman Ashley Reid (Oriskany, N.Y./Oriskany) knocked in the eventual game-winning run with another single.
Potsdam rallied in the bottom of the inning. Grottola grounded out, but picked up an RBI, bringing in Dobransky. Pascal singled to left to make it 9-8. With the tying run on base, Stevens induced a pop up to end the threat and the game.
Graduate student
Sierra Ashley (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Lisbon) allowed six runs on nine hits, while striking out five in four innings. Junior
Lexie Cottrill (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) (6-11) pitched the last four innings. She allowed three runs, one earned, on seven hits, walked two and struck out three.
Dobransky was 2-for-5 with a run. Grottola was 4-for-5 with two runs and an RBI. Bennett and Moscarello were each 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI. Dean was 2-for-4 with four RBI and Tompkins was 3-for-3.
Stevens (10-4) allowed eight runs, seven earned, on 18 hits in eight innings to hang on for the win.
Sophomore left fielder Ava Faragon (Poestenkill, N.Y./Averill Park) was 2-for-3 with two runs. Turk was 3-for-5 with four runs and an RBI. Birmingham was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Stevens was 3-for-5 with three RBI. DeSena went 2-for-5 with a run and two RBI. Powell was 2-for-4.
The contest marks the ends of the careers of seniors and graduate students

Grottola finishes her career ranked third in hits (122), third in total bases (167), third in fielding percentage (.985), fourth in batting average (.338), fourth in on-base percentage (.389), fourth in doubles (22), fourth in triples (7), fifth in at-bats (361), seventh in slugging percentage (.463), eighth in stolen bases (24), 10th in games played (119), 10th in RBI (46) and first in putouts (838).

Brianna Ferchen's program took a big step forward this Spring. The Bears set the program record for wins in a season with 14. They tied the program record for SUNYAC wins with 5. They set the program single season record for batting average (.286), runs scored (159) and stolen bases (65) and had the second most hits (269). The Bears also posted the fifth best fielding percentage in a season at .933.
