Bears roll past Badgers, 4-1

POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (2-6) defeated Vermont State University Johnson (2-3) 4-1 on Saturday. The victory ended a four-game skid.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Senior midfielder Sarah Emmi (Huntington, N.Y./Elwood-John Glenn) tipped a pass from junior forward Meg Napoleon (Lyons, N.Y./Newark) past Badgers junior goalie Isabel Atkisson (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) for a 1-0 lead at 30:10.
  • Sophomore forward Morgan Williams (Rochester, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) scored at 53:43 on a long shot to double the lead.
  • At 62:02, senior forward Hailey von Ahn (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) beat a charging Atkisson after picking up a pass from senior forward Julia Tycott (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) to extend the lead to three.
  • Sophomore midfielder Samantha Parsons (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) added some insurance at 80:15 off another long shot.
  • Freshman forward Jenna Jones (Medicine Hat, Alberta/Crescent Heights) answered for Johnson just 55 seconds later.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Megan Fry (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) made one save in the first half to pick up the win. Sophomore Caroline Vines (Irondequoit, N.Y./Irondequoit) allowed a goal in the second half.
  • Atkisson finished with 13 saves for Johnson.
  • The Bears are now 7-2 in the all-time series dating back to a 3-2 Potsdam win in overtime at home on 9/17/91.

The Bears are off until they travel to Buffalo State to open SUNYAC play next Saturday at 11 a.m.
