POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (1-2) scored three times in the first half en route to a 5-2 win over SUNY Poly (1-1) in its home opener. Senior forward
Julia Tycott (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) had two goals and an assist and junior midfielder
Emily Jordan (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon) had a goal and an assist.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Tycott jammed home her own rebound at the right post to open the scoring at 17:37.
- At 23:36, junior forward Meg Napoleon (Lyons, N.Y./Newark) finished a nice pass from Tycott through the defense and then blasted it home.
- Junior forward Emma Warren (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) knocked home a rebound off a shot by Jordan that hit the left post to make it 2-0 at 39:05.
- Sophomore midfielder Aubree Smykla (Copenhagen, N.Y./Copenhagen) got the Wildcats on the board at 48:23 when she scored from the front of the goal off a pass from senior forward Hannah Shipley (Chili, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) from the left side.
- At 68:05, Jordan picked up a long pass from sophomore midfielder Samantha Parsons (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) in stride and ripped it into the top of the goal from the right side for a 4-1 advantage.
- Senior midfielder Adrianna Orlando (Balwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) sent a long pass to Tycott in the front of the box at 72:13. She spun and fired into the top right corner of the net for her second marker of the game and a 5-1 lead.
- Graduate student forward Kate Donnelly (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown) netted the contest's final goal for SUNY Poly at 80:24, after Smykla played the ball ahead.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Bears outshot the Wildcats 23-9 and had a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal.
- Sophomore goalie Caroline Vines (Irondequoit, N.Y./Irondequoit) made two saves for her first career win.
- Senior goalie Katie Bowers (Oriskany, N.Y./Oriskany) allowed three goals and made seven saves for SUNY Poly in the first half. Graduate student keeper Michalyn Fagan (Milton, Vt./Milton) stopped four shots and allowed two goals in the second half.
- The contest was Tycott's first career two-goal game.
- The Bears are now 12-3-1 in the all-time series with SUNY Poly and have won the last seven meetings.

The Bears head to Hoboken, N.J. this weekend for the Stevens Annual Engineering Cup. They face host Stevens Institute of Technology at 11 a.m. on Saturday and Husson University at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
