Wildcats stymie Bears, 1-0

POTSDAM, N.Y – Johnson and Wales University (7-7-1) scored late in third period to best the SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team (4-10-2) 1-0 on Saturday evening.
 
WHAT HAPPENED:
  • In the first and second period, the Bear's outshot the wildcats 33-10 but neither side could get on the board.
  • At 15:26 in the third, sophomore forward Connor Nelson (Woodbury, Minn./ University of Dubuque) scored to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. Senior defensemen Kadyn Fennell (Evansville, Ind./Bozeman Ice Dogs) and freshmen forward Luke Gaffney (Westmont, Ill./ Metro Jets) assisted on the goal.
  • The Bears pulled sophomore goalie Lenny Perno (Rochester, N.Y./ Richmond Generals) in the last minute but couldn't get the equalizer.
 
BEHIND THE STATS:
  • The Bears outshot the Wildcats 44-18.
  • Bears went 0-5 on the power play and the Wildcats went 0-1.
  • Perno tallied 17 saves.
  • Sophomore goalie Jake Inzirillo (West Islip, N.Y./ PAL Junior Islanders) stopped 44 shots for the first shutout victory of his career.
