Potter’86 to be honored during Bears’ January 25 basketball doubleheader

POTSDAM, N.Y.—Nearly a year ago, the North Country Community and SUNY Potsdam Athletics lost veteran broadcaster Warren Potter '86. Join the Bears on Saturday, January 25, as they honor their "Voice" between the women's game with SUNY Oneonta at 2 p.m. and the men's game at 4 p.m.

Potter, a proud Potsdam alum, began his broadcast career as an undergraduate for the campus radio station WRPS over 40 years ago. He called many of Bears Basketball's legendary moments as they happened. After his graduation, Potter began his time with WPDM-WSNN radio in Potsdam, beginning a nearly 40-year run of broadcasting local high school and collegiate athletic contests. He became the primary play-by-play announcer for Bears basketball and hockey in 2016. Potter also broadcast for multiple other Bears athletic teams during that time. A Crane School of Music graduate, music was another of his passions. Potter earned his master's from the College in 2002 as well as his teaching certificate. In 2011, he joined the faculty at the St. Regis Mohawk School in the Salmon River Central School District, serving a music teacher.

There are two banners hanging in the rafters in Jerry Welsh Gymnasium, one signifying each of the basketball team's national championships. Potter's banner will join them on the 25th. Admission to both contests is free.
