POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (6-8, 2-4 SUNYAC) nearly erased a 25-point deficit in the fourth quarter before falling 74-67 to SUNY Canton (7-6, 3-4) on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Canton opened the first quarter on a 9-3 run, but the Bears countered with a 16-6 stretch to grab a 19-15 lead. Senior forward Jenna Cotter (Johnson City, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) and senior guard Barbara Bruno (Brooklyn High School for Law and Technology) each had five points.
- The Roos started quickly in the second quarter as well, outscoring the Bears 12-4 in the first five minutes. Canton had a 23-8 advantage in the quarter and led 38-27 at the half. Cotter added four points to her total.
- Canton outscored the Bears 31-17 in a high-scoring third quarter. Junior guard DaeLynn Alcock (Philadelphia, N.Y./Indian River), freshman guard Amya Moore (Hudson, N.Y./Hudson) and Bruno each scored four points for Potsdam. The Roos led 69-44 after 30 minutes.
- The Bears mounted a furious comeback in the fourth quarter, using a 22-3 run to get within 72-65 with 1:35 left. However, Potsdam ran out of time, falling 74-67. Bruno scored 10 points in the last 10 minutes.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Canton shot 43.8-percent from the floor and was even hotter from 3-point range at 47.1 (8-17). The Bears hit 38.7-percent of their shots.
- The Roos edged Potsdam in rebounds, 38-36.
- Bruno finished with 21 points and four rebounds.
- Alcock had a career-high 16 points along with five steals and four boards.
- Cotter added 11 points and eight rebounds.
- Sophomore guard Sierra Pabo (San Jose, Calif./Santa Teresa) led Canton with 18 points and three rebounds.
