Pioneers push past Potsdam

UTICA, N.Y.—Utica University (5-1) defeated the SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (0-6) 85-63 on Tuesday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pioneers opened the contest on a 22-6 run and built their biggest lead of the first half, 33-14, at 9:17.
  • The Bears outscored Utica 18-15 the rest of the way and trailed 48-32 at the break.
  • Senior guard Jaylen Singh (Murfreesboro, Tenn./Rockvale) had eight points and three assists in the first 20 minutes and sophomore guard Mike Hancock (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) scored seven and grabbed five rebounds.
  • The Pioneers pulled away in the second half. A three from Dayion Thompson gave Utica its largest lead of the contest, 84-55 with 3:38 to play.
  • Potsdam closed the game with an 8-2 run before bowing 85-63.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Utica shot 45.8-percent from the floor while the Bears shot 41.5-percent.
  • The Pioneers outrebounded Potsdam 50-36.
  • Singh and Hancock each finished with 11 points, while Singh added six assists.
  • Junior captain Ethan Baksh (Queens, N.Y./Richmond Hill) contributed eight points and five rebounds
  • Thompson led Utica with 23 points, while Keyaton Parks and Jordan Cain scored 15 and 13 points, respectively.
