Raiders, No. 7 Pride overpower Bears in Saturday tri-match

NASHUA, N.H.—Rivier University (3-3) hosted a tri-match with the SUNY Potsdam men's volleyball team (3-4) and No. 7 Springfield College (4-1) on Saturday. Potsdam fell to the host Raiders and seventh-ranked Pride by identical 3-0 scores.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (RIVIER)
  • In the first set, the Raiders jumped out to a 9-3 lead and never looked back, taking a 25-13 win.
  • Rivier created some separation with the Bears midway through a previously tight set two before claiming a 25-19 decision.
  • The decisive set three played out very similarly to set two, with Rivier pulling away from Potsdam late.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (RIVIER)
  • Junior outside hitter Duncan Tenhagen (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca West) and senior middle hitter Matt Kilinski (Greenfield Center, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) each finished with eight kills.
  • Sophomore setter Alex Lombardo (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) finished with 25 assists.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (SPRINGFIELD)
  • The Pride overpowered the Bears in three straight sets, 25-10, 25-13, 25-10.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (SPRINGFIELD)
  • Tenhagen added another four kills, while junior Mike Kilinski (Greenfield Center, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) and freshman opposite Liam Yusko (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) each had two. Kilinski also had a block.
  • Freshman middle hitter Christopher Wong (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) had an ace, a block and two digs.
  •  Lombardo registered another five digs.
  • Sophomores Calum Anderson (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) and Dylan Murray (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) added three digs apiece.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Bears host an exhibition tri-match next weekend with Clarkson University's club team and Finger Lakes Community College.
