POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Fredonia (9-14, 5-11 SUNYAC) had a big first quarter and built on it in a 66-54 win over the SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (9-15, 5-12) on Bear Pride Night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Fredonia outscored Potsdam 16-8 in the first quarter. Senior guard Barbara Bruno (Bronx, N.Y./Brooklyn High School for Law and Technology) scored all the points for the Bears.
- Potsdam was within 17-13 of the Blue Devils in the second quarter, but trailed 33-21 at the break. Senior guard Carley Hill (Essex, Vt./Rice Memorial) had six points on two threes in the second.
- The third quarter was even closer with Fredonia creating a 21-19 edge. However, the Bears still trailed 54-40 after 30 minutes. Senior guard Mikayla Shipley (North Chili, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) had six points on two threes and senior forward Alquidania Martinez (Bronx, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) added four points.
- The Bears outscored the Blue Devils 14-12 in the fourth quarter, but fell by a 66-54 count. Bruno had four more and Hill and freshman Amya Moore (Hudson, N.Y./Hudson) each had threes.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Bears outshot Fredonia 44.4-percent to 38.1 from the floor.
- The Blue Devils controlled the boards with a 40-27 advantage.
- Bruno led the Bears with 14 points, while Hill finished with 12 points and four boards.
- Cotter had eight points, six rebounds and three blocks.
- Freshman guard Jayssa Snelick (Saint Mary's, Pa./Saint Mary's) paced the Blue Devils with a double-double of 18 points and 14 boards.

The Bears wrap up their season with a 2 p.m. battle against Buffalo State tomorrow afternoon. They will honor their senior class prior to the game.
