Bears bounce Bard for program record eighth in a row

ANNADALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's volleyball team (14-7, 4-1 NEVC) swept Bard College (12-14, 2-3) 3-0 on Friday evening. The victory was the program record eighth straight victory.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bears started set one on an 11-3 run and held on a for a 25-21 win. Junior middle hitter Mike Kilinski (Greenfield Center, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) had four kills and senior middle hitter Matt Kilinski (Greenfield Center, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) added three.
  • Set two started with the teams battling evenly until it was 9-9. The Bears finished on a 16-10 run to win 25-19. Matt Kilinski added another five kills.
  • Potsdam opened the third set on an 8-3 burst, but again the Raptors rallied to make it close before falling 25-20. Matt Kilinski racked up another nine kills in the clinching set.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Matt Kilinski finished with 17 kills.
  • Mike Kilinski recorded nine kills and a block.
  • Junior outside hitter Duncan Tenhagen (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca West) totaled seven kills and six digs.
  • Sophomore setter Alex Lombardo (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) had another big day with 38 assists and eight digs.
  • Sophomore middle hitter Jack Orrange (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) contributed seven digs.
  • Freshman middle hitter Christopher Wong (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont) contributed three kills, two aces, two blocks and five digs.
  • Freshman right side Charlie Cherchio (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) rounded out the leaders with five kills, three blocks and an ace.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Bears wrap up conference play at Russell Sage College at noon tomorrow. They then face Curry College in a neutral site contest at 2 p.m.
