POTSDAM, N.Y.—Two members of SUNY Potsdam's cross country and track and field programs have earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors this season. Senior
Emily Yousey (Lacona, N.Y./Sandy Creek) and sophomore
Samuel Barney (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) represent the Bears on the teams.
To be eligible for a nomination, athletes need to maintain at least a 3.5 GPA, be a sophomore and rank in the top 50 in the region in at least one event.
Yousey, majoring in Biology, placed in the top 50 for six events this year. Yousey is also a repeat recipient of this honor, having also earned it last spring. She ranked 15th (1:00.05) in the indoor 400M, 46th (27:53) in the indoor 200M, 20th (59:33) in the outdoor 400M and 41st (26:64) in the outdoor 200M. The senior is also part of the 20th-ranked (4:34.40) indoor 4X400M relay team and the 18th-ranked (51:28) outdoor 4X100M relay. Yousey earned third team All-SUNYAC honors at the conference indoor championships in March.
Barney, an English Literature major with a minor in Politics, placed in the top 50 for the 3000M Steeplechase this Spring. The sophomore set the program record with a time of 11:11:54 at the SLU Twilight Invite on April 25. The time is the 36th best in the region.
