SUNY Potsdam's fall athletic teams open their 2025 seasons this Friday and Saturday. The Bears men's soccer team kicks things off on Friday with a 4 p.m. home match against Mount Saint Mary College. The women's volleyball team squares off with Plattsburgh State on the road at 4 p.m. in the first round of the Cardinal Classic. The women's soccer team hosts St. Lawrence University at 7 p.m. Friday evening. On Saturday, the Bears cross country team begins the season at 11 a.m. at the Plattsburgh Invitational. Volleyball is back in action at the same time on Saturday in Plattsburgh as they take on Russell Sage College. Men's soccer hosts Bard College at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Volleyball closes out the first weekend and the Plattsburgh tourney with a 3 p.m. match against SUNY Delhi.

2025 is the Bears men's soccer program's 67th season and head coach
Adam Parker's 16th at the helm. Parker, the program's winningest coach, is joined by first year assistant

Jake Trubia (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) and
Luke Tytler (Rochester, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) will serve as Potsdam's captains this season. They lead a team of 19 veterans and four newcomers, including a junior transfer. Trubia started all 17 games he played last season, scoring twice. Tytler started every one of the team's 18 games and was Potsdam's third leading scorer with eight points on two goals and four assists. Sophomore midfielder
Kyan Tiede (Leicester, N.Y./York) tied with Tytler with eight points on three goals and two assists. He played in 17 contests with 13 starts in his debut campaign. Fellow sophomore midfielder
Cristiano Lozier (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) is also back after starting every game a year ago. Junior defender
Matthew Mapes (Fort Drum, N.Y./Carthage) started seven of his 17 matches in 2024. With five starts apiece last season, sophomore forward/midfielder
Logan Bush (Newcomb, N.Y./Newcomb), sophomore defender
Matthew Buglione (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) and sophomore midfielder
Adrian Ramos (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) round out the most experienced returning Bears. In goal, a trio of keepers will battle for playing time. Senior
Ian Schwartz (Amsterdam, N.Y./Broadalbin-Perth) is the most experienced with a 3-5 record, .698 save percentage and 2.24 goals-against-average in eight career starts. Sophomore
James Kelm (Chester, N.Y./Chester Academy) was 1-1 with two starts in five games as a freshman. He also recorded a 0.73 G.A.A. and a .818 save percentage. Junior
Sam Allen (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) has seen action in four matches, with a .714 save percentage and a 1.82 G.A.A.

Women's Volleyball
Last fall, 13th year head coach
Josh Stokes' women's volleyball squad was one of the most veteran Bears programs. That experience carried Potsdam into the postseason. This year, the team will be one of the College's youngest programs. Of the 19 Bears on this year's roster, 12 are new faces, although three are junior transfers. Setter
Sophia Layer (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) is the team's lone senior and will be the captain. She started 19 of her 21 contests last year and led the team with 49 service aces and 637 assists. Defensively, Layer added 209 digs and 11 blocks. Junior outside hitter
Emily Prest (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) is the Bears' top returning offensive threat. She played in all 24 matches, starting 21. She was third on the team with 173 kills and recorded 34 serves aces, 199 digs, 18 assists and nine blocks. Junior setter
Gabriella Luna (Schenectady, N.Y./Mekeel Christian Academy) saw action in every game and started four. She had 64 assists, 19 aces, 38 digs, six kills and a block. Junior setter
Rachel Madore (Peru, N.Y./Peru) also played in all 24 matches last year. She was third on the team with 256 digs and contributed 46 assists, 24 aces and a block. Junior middle hitter
Jacqueline Fornabia (Gansevoort, N.Y./Saratoga Central Catholic) started four of her 12 contests in 2024. She had six kills and three blocks. Junior defensive specialist/libero
Madison Gilliland (Rossville, Ga./Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe) played in 14 contests with a start and registered 43 digs and six assists. Sophomore setter
Meredith Harnden (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) played in 19 matches and had 45 assists, 12 kills, 10 digs and a block. Junior outside hitter
Sarah Ruffos (Parish, N.Y./Altmar-Parish-Williamstown), junior middle hitter
Noelle Redeye (Cattaraugus, N.Y./Silver Creek) and junior defensive specialist
Olivia Eves (Chaumont, N.Y./General Brown) all join the Bears after transferring from SUNY Jefferson. Potsdam's home opener is Wednesday, September 3, when Paul Smith's College comes to Jerry Welsh Gymnasium for a 5 p.m. contest.

The women's soccer team's 2025 roster is loaded with veterans. 17 of the Bears' 24 players are returnees. Seniors
Emily Jordan (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon) and
Kendall Brown (Webster, N.Y./Webster-Schroeder) are the team's captains. Jordan played in all 17 games with 15 starts. She scored a goal and assisted on another. Junior forward/midfielder
Adrianna Orlando (Baldwinsville, N.Y./ C.W. Bakers) also played in every contest with 15 starts. She's the team's top returning scorer with a goal and four assists. Senior forward/midfielder
Meg Napoleon (Lyons, N.Y./Newark) had a goal and an assist in 14 games and 11 starts. Senior defender
Emma Wilson (Nesconset, N.Y./Sachem North) and senior midfielder
Ella Hutchins (Oriskany Falls, N.Y./Waterville) each started every contest last season. Senior forward
Madison Wagner (Chittenango, N.Y./Chittenango) and junior forward/midfielder
Morgan Williams (Rochester, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) each started five games, while playing in every one and scored a goal each. Junior midfielder
Samantha Parsons (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) scored two goals and assisted on another in 14 contests. Senior forward
Emma Warren (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) added a goal in 14 games and sophomore midfielder/defender
Abigail Bianchi (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) also played in 14 games, while starting three. Junior goalkeepers
Megan Fry (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) and
Caroline Vines (Irondequoit, N.Y./Irondequoit) are back to split time between the sticks for the third straight season. Fry started nine contests, posting a 1.65 G.A.A. and a .839 save percentage. Vines made eight starts with a 2.94 G.A.A., .576 save percentage and a 4-5 record.

Emily Ware (Massena, N.Y./Massena) rejoins the program. Ware recorded her best 6K time of 30:45 at the 2022 SUNYAC Championships. Junior
Molly Isaacs (Bethlehem, N.Y./Bethlehem) completes the women's roster this season after transferring from Castleton University. She ran her personal best 6K time of 36:09 at last season's Western New England University Invitational on October 19. Barney had a personal best 8K time of 31.44.7 at the 2024 Mideast Region Championships on November 2. Senior
Eli Siracusa (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) was the men's top finisher at the SLU Hoffman Invite last September 21 and the SUNY Poly Wildcat Invite on September 28. He ran his fastest time 8K time of 29:45.6 at the 2023 Mideast Region Championships. Juniors
Jack Schroeder (Gouverneur, N.Y./Gouverneur) and
Connor Till (Castile, N.Y./Letchworth) also return. Till's best 8K time of 31.22.6 came at the 2024 Mideast Region Championships. Senior
Josef Kaufman (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) completes the men's returnees. His personal best 8K time of 35:00.7 also came at last year's Mideast Region Championships. Sophomore
Bryson Brown (New York, N.Y./Mercersburg Academy) will run with the Bears this fall after competing for the track and field team last spring. Sophomore
