Corbett named Bears interim women’s hockey coach

POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Potsdam Director of Athletics Mark Misiak has named Rachel Corbett as the Bears women's hockey team's interim head coach for the 2026-27 season.

"I'm pleased to welcome Rachel to SUNY Potsdam as our next women's ice hockey head coach," Misiak said. "She was extremely impressive throughout the search process and I feel we've found a rising star in the hockey world. I know our women's hockey student-athletes are raring to go, and I'm confident they will have a fantastic season with Rachel behind the bench."

Corbett is a Rochester native but has local connections.

"I am incredibly excited and honored for this opportunity to serve as head coach of an established Division III program, especially at SUNY Potsdam," said Corbett. "My dad is from Potsdam and was my first hockey coach, which makes this opportunity even more meaningful. I think my 10-year-old self would think this is pretty cool. I look forward to upholding the culture and standards established by the coaches and athletes before me while building something special with this program."

Corbett spent the past year serving as the assistant coach at Utica University. With the Pioneers, she was involved in all facets of running the program. Corbett assisted with practices, game preparation, video analysis and player development. She also recruited and mentored student-athletes and assisted with game operations. The Pioneers reached the UCHC Semifinals last season.

Corbett is very familiar with the Bears, having competed against them for four years as a member of the Oswego State Lakers. In four seasons and 103 games, she compiled 49 points on 15 goals and 34 assists. The three-time captain helped the Lakers reach the postseason each year, including a spot in the 2025 SUNYAC Championship.

Corbett has a bachelor's in business administration and a master's in healthcare administration, both from Oswego.

The Bears open the 2026-27 campaign at home against No. 13 Elmira College on Friday, October 30 at 3 p.m.
