Thoroughbreds blank Bears on Senior Day

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team (7-16-2, 4-12-2) was defeated 4-0 by the Skidmore College Thoroughbreds (14-9-2, 11-6-1) on Saturday evening at Maxcy Ice Arena on Senior Day. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Skidmore scored twice in the opening period, with the first goal coming five minutes in on the power play courtesy of senior forward Oscar Worob (Montclair, N.J./Montclair Hitmen). Freshman defenseman Dylan Shane (Kutztown, Pa./Johnstown Tomahawks) and sophomore forward Coleman Jenkins (Mansfield, Mass./Boston Jr. Rangers) had the assists. 
  • Freshman forward Daniel Urban (Orchard Park, N.Y./Utica Jr. Comets) doubled the Thoroughbred's lead with four minutes left in the period, assisted by sophomore defenseman Nick Troutwine (Eveleth, Minn./Amarillo Wranglers) and senior forward Ryan Waltman (South Bend, Ind./Jamestown Rebels). 
  • The Thoroughbreds scored another pair in the second period, first at 6:34 as freshman forward Shane Baker (South Grafton, Mass./Cranbrook Blues) got on the scoresheet, with assists from freshman forward Ryan Stratton (Camillus, N.Y./Mercer Chiefs) and Jenkins. 
  • Freshman forward Alex Loguerico (Monroe, Conn./Northern Cyclones) made it 4-0 for Skidmore late in the second. Troutwine picked up his second assist, and freshman forward Christian Day (Barre, Vt./Islanders Hockey Club) recorded his first. 
  • Junior Bears' goaltender Lenny Perno (Rochester, N.Y./Richmond Generals) made 12 saves in the third period to close out the contest. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 
  • The Bears were outshot 40-25. 
  • Potsdam was 0-for-5 on the power play. Skidmore was 1-for-5. 
  • The Bears blocked 14 shots, and the Thoroughbreds blocked eight. 
  • Perno stopped 36 shots in the contest. 
  • Skidmore goalie Kyle Ozgun (Ridgefield, N.J./North Iowa Bulls) made 25 saves. 
  • The loss eliminates the Bears from playoff contention. 

SENIOR DAY
The Bears celebrated the Class of 2026 at the conclusion of the contest, saying goodbye to eight Potsdam players: captain and defenseman Michael Campbell (Toronto, Ontario/Jersey Whalers), captain and forward Mason Hoehn (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Richmond Generals), forward Max Klanow (Holly, Mich./Hawkesbury Hawks), forward Jeremy Quesnel (Alexandria, Ontario/Hawkesbury Hawks), forward Payton Felix (De Peyster, N.Y./Northeast Generals), defenseman Samuel De Mauro (Montreal, Quebec/Kirkland Lake Gold Miners), forward Mathieu Parent (Kapuskasing, Ontario/Renfrew Wolves), and forward Ryan Mahlmeister (Massapequa, N.Y./PAL Islanders).
