Bears rally past Hawks again, complete weekend sweep

ONEONTA, N.Y.—For the second day in a row, the SUNY Potsdam men's volleyball team (10-5) rallied for a five-set, come-from-behind victory over Hartwick College (5-20) on the road.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hawks built an 18-12 lead in set one and went on to the 25-20 win. Senior middle hitter Mike Kilinski (Greenfield Center, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) led the Bears with three kills. Junior right side Benson Jovel-Truong (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) and junior outside hitter Calum Anderson (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) each had two kills.
  • Potsdam pulled away late in set two to take the 25-20 win and even the match. Mike Kilinski had another three kills. Jovel-Truong, freshman setter Shane Goldberg (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna), freshman right side Brayden Kilinski (Greenfield Center, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) and senior outside hitter Duncan Tenhagen (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca West) each recorded two kills.
  • Hartwick outpaced the Bears in set three, winning 25-17. Tenhagen added four kills and Mike Kilinski had three more.
  • Potsdam used a 12-7 run to end set four 25-20 and force a fifth set. Tenhagen and Mike Kilinski did most of the damage again with six and four kills, respectively.
  • In the decisive fifth set, the Bears broke a 4-4 tie and went on to a 15-9 victory to take the match. Tenhagen tacked on three more kills and Goldberg had two.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Tenhagen finished the day with 16 kills, seven digs and two blocks. Mike Kilinski had 13 kills and a career-high seven blocks. Goldberg had a personal best eight kills to go with three blocks and nine assists.
  •  Lombardo had 39 assists and two aces and Brayden Kilinski contributed seven digs. Freshman libero Rowan Root (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) chipped in 13 digs.
  •  Keegan Doherty had 19 kills and three blocks for the Hawks and Nate Roorbach compiled 51 assists.
  • Tenhagen now has 875 career kills and Lombardo is up to 1564 assists.

The Bears wrap up the regular season in one week when they host a tri-match with VSU-Johnson and St. John Fisher beginning at 1 p.m.
