Golden Knights overpower Bears

POTSDAM, N.Y.—Clarkson University (2-1) defeated the SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team (1-1) 20-2 on Wednesday night.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Clarkson raced out to a 9-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.
  • Sophomore attack Jayla Thompson (Hogansburg, N.Y./Massena) scored both goals for the Bears with assists from senior attack Megan MacWilliams (Parishville, N.Y./Parishville-Hopkinton) and sophomore attack Ava Murphy (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon).
  • Senior goalie Olivia Minarich (Albany, N.Y./Albany) allowed 14 goals and made seven saves in the first 30 minutes for the Bears, while fellow senior goalie Jane Olszewski (Thornwood, N.Y./Westlake) allowed six goals and stopped five shots in the last 30.
  • Golden Knights junior goalie Riley Donovan (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) earned the win with two saves in the first half. Senior goalie Jennaca McGill (Adams Center, N.Y./South Jefferson) allowed two goals and made two saves in the second half.
  • Junior attack Gabby Cranfield (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) led Clarkson with seven points on three goals and four assists.
  • Freshman midfielder Karli Scherf (Kensington, N.H./Exeter) had three goals and an assist for the Golden Knights.
  • MacWilliams had three ground balls, a caused turnover and a draw control and sophomore captain Auna Shadle (Massena, N.Y./Massena) also caused two turnovers and two draw controls.
