Tim Helm's returns for his third season as the Bears' top assistant men's basketball coach.
Helms served as a volunteer assistant coach for two seasons from 2011-2013.
Prior to Potsdam, Helms was head basketball coach at Humboldt High School and for the Hillcrest Recreational Center in St. Paul, Minn., from 2009-2010.Â
Dobbs pointed to Helms' value as a teacher, communicator and his persistent nature in recruiting in attributing the hire.Â
"He has good experience having been here for the last two years," Dobbs said. "He has a good understanding of our system. He'll be an excellent recruiter. He's a smart guy who really understands the game well.   He's a good communicator. He'll get on the phone and talk with the kids. He's going to be persistent and very aggressive in recruiting."Â
Helms completed his master's in Science of Education in Organizational Leadership from SUNY Potsdam in May of 2013. He earned his Bachelors of Arts in Entrepreneurship from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn. in May of 2010.Â
A native of Long Lake, N.Y., Helms now resides in Canton, N.Y.
