Ryan Duffy '14 enters his first season as the Bears assistant men's lacrosse coach. Duffy was a Bears All-American and the 2014 SUNYAC Player of the Year.
"Ryan brings great energy and enthusiasm with him every day and it leaves a lasting impression on both the players and other coaches," said Berkman. "He will be focused on developing our next starting goalie and taking charge of the defensive end of the field as well as being our recruiting coordinator. Ryan did an outstanding job this past season as a volunteer assistant and showed that he is ready to take the next step in his coaching career."
Duffy joined the Bears after playing a season with Onondaga Community College and another with Chestnut Hill College. In 2011 the Liverpool native was a member of the O.C.C. Lazers' National Championship team.
After winning his only decision in limited action with Potsdam in 2013, Duffy seized the starting job in 2014. Starting all 16 games between the pipes, Duffy was a five-time conference goalie of the week and two-time ECAC defender of the week. He recorded a .659 save percentage, which led the SUNYAC and ranked second in the nation. The goalie was second in the league with a 7.70 goals-against-average and finished with 211 saves. He set the Potsdam single-season wins record, guiding the Bears to a 10-6 mark. He had a career-high 21-save effort on April 12, 2014 helping Potsdam to a 10-8 win at Brockport. Despite playing just two seasons with Potsdam, Duffy finished his Bears career eighth on the program's wins list with 11 victories.
In addition to the All-American and SUNYAC honors, Duffy was selected SUNY Potsdam's Maxcy/Molnar Award Winner, the College's outstanding senior male athlete, and played in the USILA North-South Senior All-Star Game.
Duffy has been building his coaching resume since he graduated from Potsdam. Over the last two summers he served as the Co-Lacrosse Director at Camp Equinunk (Pa.) where he coordinated daily practice plans that were personalized for his players' skill level.
During the Fall of 2014, Duffy was the assistant coach and defensive coordinator for Alma College (Mich.). He also served the associate head coach for the Power Play Lacrosse Club U17 team during 2014-15.
This spring, Duffy served as a volunteer with the Bears coaching staff, working primarily with the goalies.
Duffy earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Potsdam in May 2014 and his associates degree from O.C.C. in the same area in May 2011.
