Kevin McFarland '12, a former Bears men's hockey goalie, rerurns for his season as Potsdam's assistant women's ice hockey coach.

"We are very fortunate to have Kevin joining the women's hockey program as an assistant this season," said Green. "As a graduate of Potsdam and our men's program, Kevin has a wealth of first hand knowledge relative to not only hockey on our campus, but also the academic and social experiences here as well. There is no assistant that can convey the experience more thoroughly than one that is a graduate of Potsdam."

McFarland enters his first season with the Bears after signing professional contracts with the St. Charles Chill and Brampton Beast of the Central Hockey League and the South Carolina Stingrays of the East Coast Hockey League as a during the 2013-2014 season.

The previous year, McFarland attended training camp and competed as third goaltender in practice for the St. Louis Blues. The Blues brought him on as a "Black Ace" during the 2013 playoff run.

"Having been a goaltender for the Bears and had an extended career with the St. Louis Blues organization for two seasons, Kevin will provide valuable expertise in the goaltending position that will benefit our goalies," Green added.

McFarland was a starter for the men's hockey program during his junior and senior seasons. He set the school record for single-season save percentage record with a .914 mark during the 2011-12 campaign. That season he earned a SUNYAC Goalie of the Week honor during Potsdam's playoff push in February. He was also named the 2012 Middlebury Holiday Classic Most Valuable Player. Before his collegiate career, McFarland played junior hockey for Woodstock Slammers and Quad City Express.

A St. Louis, Missouri native, Kevin earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from SUNY Potsdam in 2012.
